Tae Conchita was a baron of the Beelzenian Empire and the close adviser to Princess Maylis. Serving as the princess' loyal retainer, Tae executed Maylis' commands during her discreet investigation of the mysterious disappearances occurring throughout Asmodean. As every noble assisting them turned up dead, Tae recommended Karchess Crim help with the case.

History[]

Early Life[]

Born in the Beelzenian Empire in EC 106, Tae married and earned the noble title of Baron once he grew up, serving Princess Maylis Beelzenia at the Beelzenian Imperial Palace.[1] During his service, he met and became close friends with Count Karchess Crim of Marlon and learned of his affair with Queen Yufina.[2]

Venomania Event[]

After Maylis decided to secretly investigate the recent disappearances of women throughout the Asmodean province in EC 136, Tae passed on her will to have Marquis Claster Glassred act as their investigator, regularly reporting any updates to the princess. In March the same year, Tae learned the marquis had suffered a breakdown after his household was massacred and his daughter went missing.

After conveying this news to Maylis, in the company of Queen Yufina, Tae discussed how the new Duke Venomania would likely be taking on his duties soon and suggested they rely on him, given the disappearance affected his territory. Maylis noted that the Glassred massacre mirrored the massacre of the Venomania Family and decided not to push him too much as he was still recovering from the latter.

Tae suggested Marquis Ferdinand of Mystica as a collaborator and managed to convince Maylis despite her distaste for him. Tae then took his leave and recruited Marquis Ferdinand.[1]

After Queen Yufina's disappearance in Asmodean and the murder of Ferdinand's entire household, Tae continued to assist Maylis in looking into the disappearances, handling all the reports and documents they had so far. When asked about Martius, Tae responded he was considering hiring Elluka Clockworker, having learned the information from Karchess. After getting into an argument with Maylis about the existence of magic, Tae was met with her frustration over not having anyone to work with for the investigation. In response, he brought Karchess into the room, having asked him to help with the investigation.

As Maylis laughed about Karchess' affair and allowed him to help with their investigation, Tae advised her to keep the fact a secret from Martius, to which she agreed.[2] During the summer, Tae delivered to Maylis a report from Karchess during her meeting with a minister. He then silently watched while she enjoyed reading the Count's findings.[3]

Around a month after Karchess left, Maylis suddenly disappeared from the palace; after Karchess' report arrived the following day, Tae learned of his findings that Duke Venomania was the most suspicious. When Karchess himself arrived three days later, Tae intercepted him at the palace entrance and informed him that Maylis was missing, having him go to Asmodean with him.[2] Searching for Maylis, the two repeatedly tried to meet with Sateriasis, only to be turned away each time.

Tae then sent a report to Maylis' sister Princess Aprilis, only for her to order them not act on their own if they weren't certain Sateriasis was the culprit. Later on, Tae was finally able to meet with Sateriasis, only to be given the cover story that he was a traumatized survivor of his family's massacre.[4]

Later Life[]

After Duke Sateriasis Venomania was assassinated by Karchess and the women were rescued in later that year, Maylis offered to Tae the illegitimate child she sired as Venomania's brainwashed concubine. Unable to sire children of his own with his wife, Tae accepted the child and raised the girl as his own flesh and blood.[5]

Legacy[]

Tae's lineage continued to exist in the succeeding centuries, eventually becoming counted among the Five Dukes governing its own imperial province; it also produced Banica Conchita, who later became famed for her contributions to Beelzenian culture and society as both "Gourmet Noble Banica" and "Evil Food Eater Conchita".

Personality and Traits[]

"I don’t know if it’s something you should hear, Princess Maylis. It’s a complicated matter, at any rate..."
"You have no secrets from me at this stage, Baron."

Tae was a loyal servant of the Beelzenian Empire. Holding great respect for the imperial family and especially Princess Maylis, the baron's dedication to the princess' will made him exceptionally trustworthy to his peers. As a result, he was careful with keeping secrets and always mindful of the audience that could overhear such private affairs; Tae therefore enjoyed a professional relationship with Maylis, sharing details about their private lives while working to find solutions to the empire's various problems.

Still, Tae wasn't a humorless man, and was devoted to his beloved wife despite their inability to sire children. As a byproduct of this, he treated their adopted child from Maylis as if she was his own daughter. He also had a casual friendship with Karchess Crim, and trusted greatly in the Count's abilities and motivation for finding Queen Yufina.

Skills and Abilities[]

As a baron of the Beelzenian Empire, Tae possessed limited clout among the nobility, though greatly elevated in status due to his close relationship with Princess Maylis. The man was also learned in the proper decorum for dealing with his fellow nobility and royals, as well as a decent understanding of politics, making him an excellent adviser and diplomat.

Character Connections[]

Maylis Beelzenia: Tae's princess. Tae was devoted to Princess Maylis and held great respect for her as part of the imperial family, loyally following through on her every command. In spite of her feelings for him, this devotion was purely platonic in nature, although their friendship was such that he raised Maylis' daughter as his own.

Trivia[]

Conceptualization and Origin[]

  • Tae's Japanese name, when reversed, spells the English word "eat".[6]
  • Conchita is a Spanish diminutive of the name Concepción, meaning "conception"; the history and culture of Beelzenia, Tae's native country, is partially inspired by that of Spain.
