"…Well, that doesn’t mean I want to actively try to become queen. So if Irina—if she wants to take the position—I’ll be happy to step down. If I do, that would mean there’s no more danger, right?"
―Elluka[src]

Elluka Chirclatia, later Elluka Clockworker, was a mage of the Magic Kingdom Levianta and the fiancée of Kiril Clockworker. Originally a shrine maiden at Lighwatch Temple, she later left due to realizing its corruption. Meeting Kiril, she began living with him and his sister Irina before she and Irina were both selected for the seventh Project 'Ma'.

History[]

Early Life[]

"My sister told me…that we were ‘sold by our parents’. That we both had a special power, so we were bought for that ability by the temple."
―Elluka regarding her past[src]

Elluka was born on January 30, BT 007 in the Magic Kingdom Levianta,[1] being the much younger sister of Zellana Chirclatia.[2] After their parents discovered they were both inheritors of Held, the two sisters were sold to Lighwatch Temple, which was seeking out said inheritors.[3]

Though still a child, Elluka honed her skills and became a considerable sorceress, becoming the strongest priestess in the temple after her sister's death in the first Project 'Ma'.[4] During her youth, she followed the events concerning Project 'Ma' with Adam Moonlit and the 'Ma' candidate Eve Zvezda on television. [5] When one of the famed heads of Apocalypse, Meta Salmhofer, was arrested, the young Elluka calmly kept watch over her and spoke with her while she was imprisoned in the Lighwatch Temple. She was therefore present when the temple's head, Yegor Asayev, approached Meta to gloat about how he had betrayed Apocalypse and been "divinely pardoned" for his crimes.

While she listened to their conversation, Elluka came to understand that, while Meta was indeed evil, so too was Yegor. With some parting words between her and Meta about how she would consider leaving the temple, Elluka left the room. Later on, Elluka joined her fellow priestesses in saying a prayer over the apparently-executed Meta's casket, being the only one to notice Yegor smiling as she did.[4] As Elluka later sorted Zellana's things, she discovered her journal and learned that the Temple intended for her to be the candidate for the first Project before Zellana took her place to protect her.[4]

The Delinquent Shrine Maiden[]

"…I have had my suspicions, ever since I was a child. I suppose the catalyst for that was what happened to my sister. Zellana was taken to the castle by the previous head priest…and then never came back."
―Elluka on her reason for leaving[src]

During her work as a shrine maiden, Elluka treated and cured various HERs, among them the son of a craftsman family Kiril Clockworker. Over time, Elluka began doubting the morality of the Temple, especially after learning that Yegor was previously part of Apocalypse. Also growing tired of her rigid life as a shrine maiden, Elluka left the temple, taking on the role of a drunkard and delinquent so as not to be sought out by the priests and asked to return. It was then made out that Elluka was expelled from the temple for misconduct.

Wandering around time for a time, Elluka ran into Kiril again and was accepted into their home by him and his sister Irina; eventually, she and Kiril entered a relationship and became engaged. During this time, she began helping Kiril with his work, allowing the two as a team to handle repair jobs for magical devices.[4] When rumors began sprouting that the mage had met with the god Held residing in Elphegort,[6] she made it clear to her future family she had never even left Levianta during her entire life.[7]

Project 'Ma'[]

Later on, when Irina entered the seventh iteration of Project 'Ma', Elluka entered alongside her in order to protect her. She thus joined her and the other candidates, Ly Li and Milky Eights, in Alicegrad's reception hall with the Project's head Nyoze Loop Octopus, arriving late and drunk to keep up the delinquent ruse.[8]

Elluka then started living in the castle as per Nyoze's orders, drinking heavily and littering as she wandered around. Later on, she gathered with the other three candidates and had her magic ability measured by the Egg device,[9] scoring the highest. Following Ly and Milky's suspicious deaths, Elluka met with Nyoze, suggesting that they pause the Project. Met with Nyoze's refusal, they discussed her past before she offered to step down and allow Irina to become Queen. Nyoze then insisted she push through, revealing she had the highest magical measurement score among the four candidates. Annoyed, Elluka reluctantly agreed to continue the Project.

After their conversation, Elluka visited Kiril for the first time in about a year, sharing with him that the final selection would be soon and that either her or Irina would be unable to return home. Exchanging heartfelt goodbyes, Elluka left for the temple. When the final selection came, Elluka joined Irina inside the Levia-Behemo temple, where illusions of Milky and Ly suddenly appeared. Seth then spoke over loudspeaker, compelling them to fight each other to the death, with the only one remaining becoming Queen. Rejecting it, Elluka spoke with Irina, who pretended to surrender. As Seth revealed that the one who didn't become Queen would be executed, the two sisters-in-law fretted over the decision; Elluka then embraced Irina and vowed to protect her before Irina stabbed her in the back, killing her.[4]

Married Afterlife[]

Following her death, Elluka's soul presumably entered the Heavenly Yard. Sometime after, the sun god, Sickle, sent her to the land of Angolmois where Kiril Clockworker resided at the time, in order to reunite the two. Following their reunion, Elluka stayed by Kiril's side while he created music boxes,[10] becoming his wife at long last. After the destruction of the Third Period, Elluka followed Kiril out of Angolmois for parts unknown, following a revelation that the latter had about the Clockwork Lullaby songs.[11]

Legacy[]

After Elluka's death at Irina's hands, Levia began impersonating Elluka in order to convince Kiril to place the woman's corpse in the forbidden ark Sin. Following the resulting explosion caused by Sin, Levia and Behemo incarnated in Elluka's corpse and Levia, rendered an amnesiac, became the dominate soul. With the memories of her physical body, Levia lived on as the reborn and allegedly immortal "Elluka Clockworker", suffering from the guilt of losing her precious family and country for hundreds of years.[7]

Having survived the Levianta Catastrophe, Irina blamed her future sister-in-law for her mortal injuries and destroyed dream, swearing vengeance on her false incarnation;[6] the mage then continued to interfere with Elluka Clockworker's collection of the vessels of sin, only learning the truth about Elluka centuries later. When explaining her reasons for why Elluka Clockworker couldn't be the real Elluka to Levia, Irina cited the contradictions in her friendship with Held and inability to recognize Prim Marlon as a HER.[7]

Personality and Traits[]

"I didn’t want to be taken back to the temple. So I started trying to do whatever I could to break my commandments as a shrine maiden. I thought that even if the priests found me…they would give up on me as just some ‘depraved’ person. Though, well, I guess now that’s become who I really am."
―Elluka regarding her ruse[src]

Elluka was a loving and headstrong woman. She was devoted towards those she loved, being grateful for Kiril's acceptance of her and even going so far as to enter Project 'Ma' despite its risks to watch over Irina. This compassion extended to even strangers, with Elluka working to cure HERs, considering them to simply be mentally unwell people, and even forgiving Levia for her actions.

From a young age, Elluka was calm and level-headed, confident in her magical abilities and unafraid in the face of the known criminal Meta. However, as she grew up, she became suspicious of the Temple, understanding that Yegor was evil and that the Temple mistreated HERs. As her doubts grew, she also chafed under the Temple's rules for shrine maidens, eventually deciding she wanted to have nothing to do with the Temple and even becoming a drunkard among other things to make sure they didn't want her back. Elluka was so committed to this ruse that she kept it up even during Project 'Ma', though eventually coming to believe that she really was a delinquent.

Skills and Abilities[]

"And you had greater power than any other shrine maiden there. More than that of your deceased sister, even. I heard that with that power you cured the hearts of a great many wicked people and reformed them."
―Nyoze to Elluka[src]

Elluka was a powerful sorceress, regarded with respect by her peers. As such, she possessed a wide range of magical talent,[6] becoming the most powerful shrine maiden in the temple where she worked from a young age.[4] Due to being an inheritor of Held,[2] among her powers was the ability to detect HERs and remove their genes of malice.[7] Despite her amazing magical power, she was heavily lacking in other areas measured for candidacy in Project 'Ma'.[6] She also, as a shrine maiden, had considerable knowledge about the workings of the Project despite it the Senate's secrecy.[4]
